Community collaboration and education have always been important values at GroundWorks. Which is why we are excited to perform with local dancers at Kent State University at Tuscarawas on Saturday, February 11 at 7:30 p.m. at the Tuscarawas Performing Arts Center.
“I would like to acknowledge the participation of each of the ensemble of dancers from the Tuscarawas community for their commitment to being a part of GroundWorks performance projects such as this,” says GWDT Executive Artistic Director David Shimotakahara. “They are valuable exchanges on so many levels, including being an opportunity for both the company and our ensemble participants to connect a little more deeply and personally.”
The experience has become a thing of joy, and has resulted, both in the making and the result, in something we can all celebrate and be proud of, says Shimotakahara. “Many thanks to David Mitchell, General Manager for the Kent State University at Tuscarawas Performing Arts Center, for initiating and supporting this project. “
There will be 11 New Philadelphia-Dover area dancers who will perform in Shimotakahara’s acclaimed “Boom Boom” along with company dancers Felise Bagley, Lauren Garson, Damien Highfield, Michael Marquez and Annika Sheaff. Also on the program, “Remora” by Eric Handman and “House Broken” by Rosie Hererra.
“It has been a privilege working with a professional dance company,” says Sydney Jeffries, who is also a student at Kent State Tuscarawas. “Letting this town get to know how wonderful dance is, is going to be so rewarding when we perform. Knowing that people don’t have far to drive to see a professional dance company is such an awesome opportunity for everyone!”
