Choreographed by
James Gregg
U/04, the title of GroundWorks’ latest commission from guest artist James Gregg changes our expectations for what it might mean to communicate. In experiencing his work, we are immediately impacted by its unexpected physical connections. His choreography melds disparate influences from a distinguished performing career working with seminal artists like Victor Quijada (Rubberband) and Aszure Barton as well as being influenced by breakdance. Gregg continues to find his unique voice at the intersection of street and concert dance forms. His work reveals its details and structure like pieces of a puzzle. We can delight in its purely abstract complexities while being aware of the way certain physical associations emerge — and ultimately how the very human implications of those associations unfold.
